Colon Cleansing, and Body Detoxification, Justified, or a Quick Sale

Prior to my research regarding colon cleansing and body detoxification, I felt that in some cases these procedures and programs might be useful and serve a healthy function. In fact I even tried a body detoxification/colon cleansing program, several years ago. The only difference I noted, was an increase in bowel movements, from my normal pattern and that was it. I never repeated it as it seemed a waste of money, regarding the benifit I received.

There is very little scientific research regarding these issues, and in the Medical field it is usually noted as a procedure to clean the colon prior to a medical procedure. I did find several articles regarding colon cleansing and body detoxification, and they all pretty much relay the same information.

Natural colon cleansing;  There are two main colon cleansing methods, one involves buying products to take either orally or rectally, the other involves seeing a practitioner to have a colon irrigation. These methods are used to rid the body of toxins that have build up in the body, to dislodge them from the internal organs or from the walls of the large intestines. In reality the body cleanses itself very well, the kidneys filter out toxins in the blood, the lymph system also assists in removing toxins. The intestines remove toxins from the body in the waste process and they also shed their cells about every three days. In fact most people do not drink enough water, or eat enough fiber in their diet, which is of greater value than colon cleansing. If you are concerned about toxins building up in your body, you would be well served to eat organically grown foods, drink purified water and stay away from smoke and exhaust of automobiles, trains and planes,  eat fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean sources of protein and unsaturated fats. Add exercise and stress reduction techniques, and you will have a solid foundation for good health.

On a personal note, I have seen several videos and photo’s from friends that have undergone a colonoscopy and they both appeared pink and clear. They were from a 75 year old female and a 63 year old man. Additionally, I have noted that in a lot of the diet and detox programs on the Internet, very few if any actually tell you what supplements or herbs they are giving you in their products. This always bothers me, as I like to research the contents of anything that I buy in this regard, and have found that  it usually contains the same materials in all of them and they are items that we see everyday. If you purchase these products read the labels and research the items listed, you maybe surprised. However, if you believe in these products and procedures and wish to use them, I believe that it is your choice, only please make an informed decision, not based on the claims of websites selling you a product.

  1. Very informative. You’ve done your research. I have run into many people who believe in regular “colon cleansings” and it makes sense, but I agree why pay money for something your body does naturally. I am a huge advocate for fiber also!!!

  2. I am also a huge advocate for fiber. Colon Cleansing does a world of good for your health. Natural is better, but any colon cleanse is better than none.

  3. thanks for the information…
